Pickle
Roughly 2,000 years ago, cucumbers traveled west from India to Mesopotamia, the fertile land between the Tigris and Euphrates rivers. There, the ancient (and genius!) inventors of the wheel and mathematics also created the pickle. Pickling is a method of preservation that maintains nutrients when fresh produce is scarce; the salty, acidic brine is both transformative and healthy. Legend has it that Queen Cleopatra credited her beauty (in part) to pickles, linking Egypt’s fascination with embalming and the afterlife to the mystery of pickle fermentation. Pickles encourage us to be receptive, permeable, and willing to change. There is something wonderfully silly about a pickle. Whether you are sweet, salty or spicy, wear the pickle to facilitate transformation, beauty and whimsy.
